You manage to build up the courage and step in, immediately being hit by an intense wave of heat, it felt nice but caused your face to hurt from the sudden change in temperature. [[Check the living room.|Living Room]]
[[Check the hall.|Hall]]You enter through the bedrooms double doors, a trait that it kept from it's history of being used as a home office. This used to be your room, but it never really felt like that was true, it was always seen as "the boys room... oh and Jade." As if you and your womanhood was an afterthought. Since you had left it felt even less like your room, it was a mess and most of your stuff had been moved to your college dorm, it's not like you were the tidiest person in the world, but you were certainly better than the two 15 year old boys who were left to manage the room without you.
There were two beds tucked into the back corners of the room, with a long dresser sitting between them against the back wall. Not only did it act as a dresser, but also as a sort of bedside table, which your brothers had evidently thrown all of their things onto. The bed on the right used to be yours, which was evident by the fact that your desk was still at the foot of it. Your desk looked remarkably baren except for <<linkreplace "a small cat with no tail.">> Mynx lying on it. You're family was sad to see you leave but you wouldn't be surprised if Mynx was the most affected. You had grown up with her ever since you were in first grade and she had grown very fond of you, your mom often tells you that you're "Mynx's human." You took a sense of pride in that, she was a sweetheart and you were happy to have her.

[[Go back to the foyer.|Foyer]]You enter the kitchen, it's fairly open, with counters lining every wall and cabinets above and below most of the counters. There's an island and short wall seperating the kitchen from the dining and living rooms. The place has all your standard appliances, an oven, a toaster, a fridge with old cringy pictures of you, etc. It definitely hadn't changed much since you had last been there. Though the counters were surprisingly clear, had your mom begun to treat you as a guest, cleaning up the house before you come over? You notice a couple things still taking space on the counter however, one of which being a <<linkreplace "note...">>note. It was in your mothers handwriting:
//Jade,
We all went to go shopping! Sorry to ask you this but can you please let Marble outside when you get home? Thanks!
Love you!!
Mom//
Hmm, that's interesting. Marble was typically much louder if he heard someone in the house while he was in his cage, you guess that they must have trained him to stay quiet. Either way, you should probably go let him out of the cage in your parents bedroom...<</linkreplace>>

[[Check the dining room.|Dining Room]] You walked into the living room, it had always confounded you that in every household you'd lived in, the dining room and living room were ostensibly the same exact room, and yet were called different things. This house was just the same. The living rooms shape was... interesting. There were quite a bit of diagonals causing it to not really be square, and so the couch sat in the middle of the room with a coffee table and rug in front of it. In one of the northern diagonal walls (specifically the one the couch was facing) there was a fake fireplace as well as a little nook where a TV was placed. To the left of the couch there was a small cabinet, you weren't sure what it was really used for, but it mostly served as something for the printer to sit on top of.

[[Check the dining room.|Dining Room]] The dining room isn't all that much to look at, not because it looked particularly bad, just because there isn't really anything that sets it apart. There's a large wooden table with 6 seats around it, on the east side of the room there's a sliding glass door out to the deck. You spent a lot of time with your siblings here, working on things on your computer, playing boardgames, drawing, etc. It might not be very visually interesting but quite a lot of fun times have happened in there, you can only hope that trend continues.

Speaking of Marble... where is he? Likely in the parents bedroom or with them wherever they had run errands to, though your not sure why they'd have him join.
[[Return to dining room.|Dining Room]] The hallway connected to the foyer as well as 2 of the 3 bedrooms, not including the one that was actually just a repurposed office. It was narrow, almost clausterphobic, as the cieling suddenly gets much lower compared to the high cielings of the main foyer. The walls were bare, and were tinted <<linkreplace "yellow.">> yellow. You remember your family had told you that the reason the walls were so yellow is because the people who lived there before you would smoke inside all the time. [[Go to the bathroom.|Bathroom]] You enter the bathroom, you don't really need to go, and it hadn't changed much since you had been there. You look up in the towel closet and see the youngest of your two cats, Loki, sleeping on the highest shelf, laying on top of some towels. He's fast asleep, and yet you still feel the desire to <<linkreplace "pet him.">> pet him. You rub the top of his head and he stretches out on top of the towels, he looks at you. Despite his unwavering face, you could kind of tell he was surprised to see you. He jumps down from the shelf and onto the bathroom counter, he begins eating from the cat food bowl. You absent mindedly pet him as he eats.<</linkreplace>>
It was obvious that the kids were kind of half-assing their chores, the bathroom had gotten pretty gross. You don't feel like spending much more time in here...
[[Go back to the hall.|Hall]] <<if $fromsisterscloset==false>>
You enter your sisters' room. There are two beds in the two back corners of the room. Both have quite a bit of stuffed animals, though you're in no place to judge, as you have quite a bit yourself. Just to the left of the door there's a dresser belonging to your littlest sister, Rylee. On top of it were a bunch of antique figurines, you think she had gotten them as a gift from someone, though you can't really remember. Above the figurines was a TV mounted on the wall, Rylee had left it on and <<linkreplace "it was playing through some strange youtube video about crafts.">> you decide to turn it off. <</linkreplace>> Rylee would always leave it on without realizing it, you suppose that hadn't changed since you were last home.
On the right side of the room had your <<linkreplace "step sisters">>Evelyn's<</linkreplace>> bed, above it hung a painting that she had created. For a long time it lived in the living room, but when your family moved into this house it was decided it would be better to keep it in her bedroom. It reminded you how she was interested in art as well, she had drawn fanart of one of your characters and looked up to you, and she wasn't the only one. Your other siblings weren't as interested in art but they all seemed to look up to you as a cool person who they wanted to be like. It was flattering that they saw you in that light, but it also was pretty stressful to have that amount of pressure on you.

<</if>>You enter your parents bedroom, when entering, against the right wall is a large king sized bed, and on the left wall, a tv stand with a very big tv. In the back left corner there was a cage and a desk. Your mom had recently gotten that desk as she went back to college at around the same time as you, a mother-daughter power duo is something I guess we could call you two!
<<if $dog==false>>The cage had a blanket over top of it, they often did that when leaving home so he could get to sleep easier, so presumably he was waiting inside. You're curious if he already heard you, though you suppose it doesn't matter, in the end it's your choice whether you <<linkreplace "let him out.">> let him out.

<<linkreplace "Check out the parent's bathroom.">> The door is locked, you forgot but your mom had actually told you about an incident with the sewage that caused the need for your parents to completely remodel the bathroom, they must not be done yet and locked it for safety. You likely wouldn't have found anything in there anyways, the only time you would ever go in their bathroom was when the other one was full or during your old therapy appointments. You'd hide in their walk in closet, which was a room only accessible through their bathroom.<<if $narratorpissed>> You know, $playername, we actually blocked off this path because of people like you. <<if $closetenteredamount==1>>This is weird, you usually don't venture this far into their room. Though it's an absolute mess and you see that this is where Evelyn keeps her dresser. You'd rather not spend more time in here.
<<elseif $closetenteredamount==2>>You reenter the closet, you're not entirely sure why you've decided to come back, there's not really anything of note in here besides the excessive amount of clothes on the floor instead of in Evelyns dresser. You'd prefer to move on.
<<elseif $closetenteredamount==3>>You seem to have built an obsession with this closet, which is weird because you derive absolutely no joy from being inside of it. Perhaps you found comfort in how the walls felt like they were going to close in on you, or the fact that you couldn't walk 2 steps in any direction without feeling like your going to bump into something. Either way you decide your time would be best spent exploring the rest of the house...
<<elseif $closetenteredamount==4>>You enter the closet once again, you suppose that maybe you miss the feeling of being in the closet. Nothing more comforting than being contrained to a small box, whether that be your <<linkreplace "identity">> identity (you are gay) <</linkreplace>> or physically.
<<elseif $closetenteredamount==5>>You're in the closet... again... maybe you're trying to push the game enough to get some sort of secret ending. I can assure you that there's nothing of note here.

<<elseif $closetenteredamount==17>>Oh, and another thing. What's with gamers and their obsession with completing everything? Completionism has to be the most soulsucking thing in the world and here you are, engaging with it in a heartfelt game meant to reminisce on my life before college.
<<elseif $closetenteredamount==18>>Seriously! What do you gain from this?
<<elseif $closetenteredamount==19>> ARGHHH you're infuriating... Fine! I guess if you're going to keep doing this then we might as well get aquainted.

No. I feel nothing but vitriol towards you $playername, I couldn't care less how you feel. Now please stop entering the closet.<</linkreplace>>
<<elseif $closetenteredamount>22>> You enter the closet for (hopefully) the final time. There's an unused dresser and lots of clothes on the floor, but something catches your eye. <<set $fromsisterscloset=true>>You decide to pet her, taking your hand and placing it on her head before slowly gliding across her back and stopping at her <<linkreplace "stump.">> stump. You should probably check the rest of the house, but you always feel bad when you stop petting her...
<<linkreplace "Keep petting her, you have time.">> You decide to keep petting her for a bit and make yourself comfortable, sitting on your not so comfy desk chair that sat in front of your desk. She was purring really loudly now, she had always been a loud purrer, to the point that you were really surprised when you heard how quiet some other cats purr. You put your face near hers and she headbutts you in content, she never want's you to leave, but it's kind of impossible to pet her forever.
You should probably check the rest of the house, but you always feel bad when you stop petting her...
<<linkreplace "You can pet her a bit longer.">>You decide not to leave just yet... Mynx is very happy with this decision. Mynx had an interesting name, you always liked telling people about it because it was a fun little story about how your family has criminally bad auditory processing abilities. It went something like this: back when you were in 1st grade, the mobile home you lived in had a bit of a mouse problem and so your mom decided to get a cat to try and remedy it. Mynx was just a baby at that point, and before you got her apparently she had a different name. When your Mom was going through the process of adopting her, they told her that Mynx was a manx cat. Your mom misheard them and thought they had told her she was named Mynx, and to this day she's called a name based on a mishearing of what breed of cat she is. It's like if a human was named Sepain because someone heard sapien and though that was their name.
You should probably check the rest of the house, but you always feel bad when you stop petting her...
<<linkreplace "One second longer!">> It always pissed you off that her name was Mynx, you were under the impression for over 10 years that it was spelled Minx. You tried rebelling against that "y" for a bit but you conceded when you realized it was kind of up to your mom, she was the original person to mishear it anyways. Mynx flops onto her side and begins cleaning her paws, you know that she doesn't like being pet while grooming, so you decide to finally leave her be.
